Another year has passed and it is time to summarize what has happened since the last annual report. As always, there is more to tell about the fragmentary entries on social media and if you are curious about what 2022 has brought in terms of challenges and merits, you are most welcome to take part in the following story of yet another year in the auspices of Hinsides Publications.

The first part of MYT (2019)
MYT Pt III
A recurring question from all of you MYT fans is when the final concluding part of this peculiar saga is supposed to appear?
A most legitimate question that we hopefully will be able to answer later on this coming annual cycle. In 2022 work began to complete this strange saga and at the time of writing the first third is finished and waiting for the remaining pages to take shape. It´s a very time consuming work that requires full focus and attention to how the threads will be intertwined properly so we can only hope for the best when it comes to when this creation is ready to go to print?
To be continued...as they say.
Hinsides Magazine Vol 3
In addition to this work, the spring of 2022 was spent planning issue three of Hinsides Magazine and sending out interviews to interesting creators who had caught our interest in various ways. The first interview was actually already done in the fall of 2021 when we had the opportunity to meet and greet Molchat Doma when they played in Stockholm. Something that led us further into their musical world and made us decide to make a scene report from the former Eastern Bloc. A job that turned out well and that in many ways proved to fulfill the basic idea behind our bulletin in the best possible way. There is a lot of exciting new music coming from the East that overcomes both cultural and generational boundaries and, in addition to this, also says something about the world we live in today.

The war in Ukraine made these conversations even more topical and it was highly interesting to get to know how the situation is perceived by people who in one way or another more directly is affected by this conflict. We managed to get in touch with no less than three of the most interesting bands from this part of the world and their stories are undoubtedly something that this year will be remembered for. The fact that people manage to create a counterweight to senseless violence and at the same time maintain a hope for better times is both admirable and thought-provoking. Hopefully the exposure we have given these artists can mean further interest in what they manage to achieve and become an inspiration to continued struggle? In any case, it´s our sincere hope...
Nürnberg
Just before Russia's full-scale offensive was a fact, we also had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Jerome Reuter who is the creator behind the controversial neo-folk band ROME. A project that does not allow itself to be defined so clearly on a political scale but which nevertheless took a stand for Ukraine and actively has contributed to help the people affected by this senseless war. Our conversation took place just days before the war broke out and hours before Jerome made a couple of solo appearances in Kiev and Odessa. In retrospect, this meeting feels like part of the bigger puzzle of which we are all pieces…
New features
As usual, most interviews for Hinsides Magazine were done by letter, but this year still meant something of a trend break with this proven method as the conversations with both ROME, Molchat Doma and finally Grift were conducted on site. Something that possibly points towards a continuation of this approach? Regardless, this year has meant more occasions when we actually met our participants, which of course colored these conversations and subsequent texts. The clearest example of this was the interview that was done with Erik Gärdefors when he agreed to invite us to Kinnekulle and show the places where he both recorded music and videos for Grift. As the final feature in this year's issue of our magazine, the text that was sprung out of this meeting was a perfect way to close the circle, as the cover image for this edition was created in collaboration between Erik and Nathalie Ericson, who also participated with an interview.

When late autumn arrived in all its glory and this third issue finally was completed, our interest in both Grift and Nathalie's photography continued very nicely when we arranged a joint release party at Knastret in Karlstad. An appreciated intimate event where Erik performed an acoustic set of old and new material in front of a spellbound audience. To arrange a special event like this truly was something that we´ll do again sometime. Perhaps already next year? Collaborations like this creates so many new connections and bonds between people and has also proven to be a good way to get the word out there. Expect more of similar spectacles in the future!

The return of live music!
In other words, 2022 has been a more eventful year when it comes to social exchange in various contexts. Which of course partly can be explained by the fact that Hinsides Publications was only active for a year before the pandemic hit with full force.
When the subsequent restrictions finally were removed it meant more opportunities to meet on site and to create these occasions yourself. Something which is clearly reflected when it comes to the number of festivals and concerts that Hinsides managed to attend during this year. Some of these were also mentioned in our review section which fittingly became something of a tribute to live music's special ability to create a temporary cohesion in our complex web of clashing interests and desires.
A very beautiful thing indeed.
Pershagen live at the Fry-Out festival.
Particularly memorable concerts that took place during the year were Pershagen's performance at the Fryk-Out festivalen in Hagudden and when Gravkväde performed their first ever live performance at the second edition of Dödsmässan in Uddevalla. Hopefully, 2023 will also bring similar rapturing experiences? Svartkonst, Grift and Panopticon together at Slakthuset in Stockholm also deserves to be mentioned here of course.
The last major event that Hinsides participated in during the past year was The Abyss Festival in Gothenburg, which was a positive event both in terms of socializing and sales. We met many great people there and had a really good time. For those of you who like the older school of hard music, this festival is highly recommended!
Besides this activities there has also been some serious traveling and hiking going on during the past year, but that´s another story.
As we now look ahead to a new unwritten year, we hope that you who read this will continue to follow our whims and that you will have great happiness and success in everything you do as long as it is about Art, Music and Literature!
(Maybe when it comes to love, too, but that totally depends on your preferences.)
Happy New Year from Hinsides Publications!
See you again in 2023…
